Hear from Mr. Altman: What the Updated Cell Phone Policy Means for GMHS

Beginning with the 2025–2026 school year, Groveport Madison Schools will implement important updates to our No Cell Phone Policy as part of our broader efforts to support student safety, focus, and academic success. These changes are aligned with new state legislation and shaped by feedback from our families, students, and staff.

While this is a districtwide initiative, how it looks and feels in each building may be a little different—and that’s why we’ve asked our building principals to help explain what this change means for their school community.

It’s also important to note that while older students have experienced more frequent issues tied to cell phone use—such as social media conflicts, classroom distractions, and disciplinary concerns—our younger grades have not encountered the same level of challenges. Still, creating consistent expectations across all grade levels helps establish healthy habits early on and sets students up for long-term success.

In the video below, Jeff Altman, principal of GMHS, shares how the updated policy will be implemented at the building level and why it matters for students, teachers, and families alike.
